All,
Reminder to those interested in
shooting. This Saturday, 22 March, Scouts will get an opportunity to shoot at
the Arlington Sportsman’s Club (ASC). This will provide Scouts an opportunity to
shoot rifles (22s), shot guns, black powder rifles and bow and arrows. There
will be no opportunities for Rifle or Shotgun Merit Badge requirements to be
completed. This is an introductory type experience for young Scouts to learn gun
safety, and a chance to shoot. The target age is 11 years old and up. There will
also be Club member youth in attendance for the day.
Plan on meeting in the church
parking lot, back by the shed, at 7:00 AM Saturday
morning. We will depart for ASC at 7:20 AM sharp. We
need to arrive at the ASC facility no later
than 8:00
AM to get a parking spot as they are
expecting 300 + attendees. Eat breakfast
before you show up at the church. Teenager drivers will not be
allowed to drive to ASC; they must meet at the church and ride with an adult
driver.
There is no cost
to attend this activity.
Lunch will be
provided by the ASC. Most likely lunch will be hot
dogs, chips and a drink.
Ground Rules for the
day:
A Safety
Meeting for all participants is scheduled at 8:30
AM.
Bring a good
attitude and meet some new friends.
No younger
siblings will be allowed.
Ear and eye
protection will be required. If you have your own, please bring
them.
No personal
firearms allowed. If you need to ask, the answer will still be “NO”. The Club is
providing all firearms and ammunition.
Scouts
should wear Troop T-shirts with Troop caps or Scout cap, with a brim, while on
Club property.
Be prepared
for weather. The Club has coverings for some ranges, but they will continue to
shoot except for lighting.
Every person needs to have and carry
his own water bottle. Have your containers full when you show up at the church
parking lot. The Troop will have a five (5) gallon cooler with ice for refills
if needed. Make sure that your name is on your water
container.
Scouts will
be expected to be and stay in their group at all times. No roaming the property.
No
guarantees that adults will have an opportunity to shoot.
Gates will
be closed after Scouts have checked in. No “IN” and “OUT”
We are guest
on a “LIVE RANGE” and proper
behavior will be expected by all at all times.
All
activities will be completed by 4:00 PM.
I will attempt to have
ear and eye protection for every one. The ASC has some proactive gear, but you
might have to share the eye protection.
There is a chance that
we could finish shooting before 4:00 PM, so we will
be returning to the church early. If that is the case, the Scouts will be
calling their parents for pick up when we depart ASC property. It takes about 20
to 30 minutes to return to the church.
I need a head count of
those Scouts planning to go to ASC. I need an e-mail response from only those going to attend no later than
Wednesday 19 March at 8:00 PM, so that I
can have transportation and adult supervision available.
YIS,
Elmer Jewell
